Direct School Admission (DSA)
Edgefield Secondary School invites Primary 6 students to join the school through the 2023 Direct School Admission – Secondary (DSA-Sec) Exercise.
Interested candidates can apply for DSA through the school’s distinctive programmes and talent areas:
- Learning for Life Programme (LLP): Taekwondo
- Learning for Life Programme (LLP): Volleyball (Boys only)
- Applied Learning Programme (ALP): Innovation

1. | TAEKWONDO (TKD) |

Selection Criteria • Candidate is medically fit, exhibits aptitude in general athletic abilities and/or sports-specific competencies, and displays high levels of motivation and grit. • Obtained “Excellent” or “Very Good” for conduct grade in Primary 5 and Primary 6. • Candidates with participation and achievements in TKD, including competitions at zonal, national and/or international levels, will be considered more favourably. • Candidates with no TKD background are also welcome to apply. You will be considered based on our selection criteria for beginners. Please note that meeting all the criteria does not guarantee the student will be shortlisted. Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend in person: 1) TKD trial a. Mandatory requirement • Agility and Flexibility test to demonstrate physical ability; and b. TKD specific requirement • Demonstrate Poomsae pattern of their current or last grade level. • For students with Kyorugi background, they are to perform a short shadow sparring session with emphasis on movements and kicks. • For students without TKD background, they will be requested to demonstrate a predetermined set of routine comprising simple kicks and hand movements. • Students will be asked to perform this TKD specific requirement individually and in a group setting. You may wear your TKD dobok if you have one, or your school’s PE T-shirt and track pants. 2) An interview session. |

Programmes & Activities for DSA TKD Students • To support successful DSA candidates in developing their areas of passion, they would join TKD Club as their Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) for the duration of their studies in Edgefield Secondary School. • Selected students from the TKD DSA group will also take on various leadership roles such as LLP ambassadors. The LLP ambassadors will organise and lead school sports events/activities and be the role models of character in our school. |

Selection Criteria • Candidate is medically fit, exhibits aptitude in general athletic abilities and/or sports-specific competencies, and displays high levels of motivation and grit. • Obtained “Very Good” or “Excellent” for conduct grade in Primary 5 and Primary 6. • Candidates with participation and achievements in Volleyball, including competitions at zonal, national and/or international levels, will be considered more favourably. • Candidates with no Volleyball experience are also welcome to apply. You will be considered based on our selection criteria for beginners. Please note that meeting all the criteria does not guarantee the student will be shortlisted. Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend in person: 1) Volleyball CCA trial a. Mandatory requirement • Performance test to demonstrate physical ability which includes agility T-Test, vertical jump, etc.; and b. Volleyball specific requirement • Demonstrate specific Volleyball skills such as digging, setting and service. • Ability to demonstrate strong volleyball skills in a game play situation 2) An interview session. |

Selection Criteria • Displays strong passion and keen interest in developing skills and attributes in the areas of innovation. • Exhibits aptitude in high performance capability in creativity and problem solving. • Displays dispositions that will help nurture an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset. • Demonstrates a high level of self-motivation and self-directedness, willingness and openness to attempt and experiment with new and challenging ideas, and alertness to opportunities. • Obtained “Very Good” or “Excellent” conduct grade in Primary 5 and Primary 6. • Active involvement/participation in innovation programmes/competitions in their primary schools or has similar experiences in other platforms. • Portfolios of outstanding achievements or work in the area of innovations will be taken into consideration. Please note that meeting all the criteria does not guarantee the student will be shortlisted. Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend in person: • An interview session that includes a situational test where they will be put into a problem solving scenario. |

4. | LEADERSHIP - Nurturing Compassionate Leaders |

Selection Criteria • Demonstrates the values Compassion, Moral Courage, Sincerity and Honour. • Exhibits strong leadership qualities/skills and has held a leadership position in primary school e.g. Class Chairpersons/Monitors, Prefects, CCA leaders/Captains, etc. • Actively volunteers and has made meaningful contributions to their primary schools and the community. • Obtained “Excellent” or “Very Good” for conduct grade in Primary 5 and Primary 6. • Leadership and Character Awards such as the Edusave Award for Achievement, Good Leadership and Service (EAGLES) and Edusave Character Award (ECHA) will be taken into consideration. Please note that meeting all the criteria does not guarantee the student will be shortlisted. Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete/attend in person: • A questionnaire to assess candidates’ passion and perseverance, • An interview session. |

APPLICATION PROCESS
Application for DSA-Sec can be submitted through the online DSA-Sec Portal. The application will be open from 4 May 2023, 11am to 31 May 2023, 3pm. For more details, please refer to the MOE website at https://www.moe.gov.sg/dsa-sec.
SELECTION PROCESS
• Shortlisted candidates will be notified latest by 4 July 2023.
• Shortlisted candidates will be required to sit for the required questionnaires, trials, and questionnaires/trials/interviews if they have applied for more than one talent area.
• Please note that shortlisted candidates will have to attend separate sessions of questionnaires/trials/interviews if they have applied for more than one talent area.
• The questionnaires/trials/interviews for shortlisted candidates will be conducted between 4 July 2023 and 30 August 2023, at Edgefield Secondary School.
• Shortlisted candidates will receive notification of resuls by 11 September 2023.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION
1. Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.
2. Please note that meeting the selection criteria stated above does not guarantee that the student will be shortlisted or given an offer.
3. The school’s decision of the DSA-Sec application is final. No appeal or correspondence will be entertained.
4. The school reserves the right not to disclose the reasons for the non-selection of applicants.
5. Students who are successfully admitted to the school via DSA are expected to honour the commitment to the school and programme, and participate in the activities related to the talent they are selected for, for the duration of the programme they are admitted to.
6. Successful DSA-Sec candidates who took PSLE are NOT allowed to participate in the annual Secondary One (S1) Posting Exercise. However, if they are eligible for third language and/or course options, they may enter these options during the S1 Option Submission period.
7. Candidates who are currently NOT studying in MOE mainstream schools are to obtain a Registration Number (RGxxxxxxx) before they can apply through the DSA-Sec Portal. Refer to MOE website at: https://go.gov.sg/nmsdsa-sec-application.
8. Shortlisted International Students are to take and fulfill the requirements of the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) test.
9. For successful applicants not studying in MOE mainstream primary schools and not taking the PSLE, the school will conduct placement tests to assess the course suitability of the applicants.
